It’s the final day of your Iceland Adventure. At this point, you should be exhausted and content like a rabbit in a carrot patch. Its now time for a little R & R. (That’s rest and relaxation, not the cheap whiskey, but I won’t judge either way.)
Whales of Iceland or Whale Watching
As you wake up in Reykjavik on your last day, the first thing you should do is open your blinds and check the weather. If the weather is friendly, head downtown towards the pier or call ahead and see if the whale watching boats are running—Iceland is one of the best places in the world for whale watching.
If bad luck follows you around like a literal rain cloud like it did on our trip, the Whales of Iceland Museum makes an interesting backup plan. The museum has full-size replicas of the whales swimming around Iceland.
I have a healthy fear of the deep, dark depths of the ocean (as every human should). Standing next to the immense humpback whale model really solidifies that anxiety but also conjures up a profound fascination with these magnificent creatures.
While this is the largest whale exhibition in Europe, the museum doesn’t take long to go through. The audio tour takes about an hour or so. While I would’ve loved to see a real whale while in Iceland, I thought the museum made a good substitute and was a unique experience.
The Blue Lagoon
I bet you were wondering when this would show up on the list? If you’ve heard of Iceland, you have probably heard of it’s famous Blue Lagoon, the magical geothermal nature spa. Now I won’t spend a lot of time explaining much about it because there is so much information on it. Every travel blogger, YouTuber, writer, photographer, and Instagram model who has ever been to Iceland has written about it. All I can say it’s 100% worth visiting and ignore anyone who says its a tourist trap (I mean it is, but it is still amazing).
As you soak in the Blue Lagoon, reminisce about the past week with your travel buddies. You’ve explored lava tunnels, seen countless waterfalls, stepped foot on moving glaciers, and learned a thing or two about some of the toughest people in history. If that’s not a real adventure, I don’t know what is.
